10 Reasons to Teach Middle School

1. You will never be bored. Middle school is the peek of crazy hormones. These kids are hyped on hormones they don't understand and don't know how to handle. They get worked up so easily it's almost humorous, and the gossip is the juiciest I've ever heard.
2. They are hilarious. Middle school students are so funny. They aren't usually funny when they try to be, but they are hilarious unintentionally. As stated earlier, HORMONES. They don't know up from down half the time. They are random and say some of the silliest stuff. It's great.
3. They are small adults and big kids. They have no idea where or how they fit right now. They are still childish in many ways, but they are such adults in others. Sometimes, I still have to help them cut and paste (okay, I always have to help), but other times I can talk to them about their futures and life. It's an awesome balance.
4. Sarcasm. They know it. They love it.
5. They will teach you the "cool" kids lingo without much ridicule. They want you to be cool like them. They will teach you the words with very little ridicule, either from love or pity. Either way works for me. This year I have learned "on fleek", "triggered", "bae", and "lit".
6. Hugs. They won't all hug you, but many of them will still hug you daily. It's the best. I have one student that comes and finds me everyday between 7th and 8th period and gives me a daily hug. It's seriously the best.

7. Weird displays of affection. The ones that won't hug you, will show their affection to you in the weirdest ways. The two most common displays I've noticed are taking selfies on my phone when they think I'm not paying attention, and verbally jarring with me. I've also been the recipient of drawings, colorings, letters, LENGTHY stories, and track ribbons placed directly in my cornea to show me their success.
8. Boy/girl relationships. Hormones, mentioned before, are the best at this age. These kids are so funny. The boys are in love with the girls; they've begun stuttering around them and being scared to talk to them. The girls have gotten extremely flirty in an awkward embarrassing way. If they're ever acting up, just make it a boy-girl-boy-girl seating chart and all is well. The talking will cease, because if they talk the other kids will think they "looooove" each other. Bam!
9. They still think you know everything about your subject. Enough said.
10. The weirder you are, the more they love you. I'm pretty weird. I out weird them, and they love it. This is the only time and place I will break dance to remove the awkwardness from one person to put it on myself. I randomly sing or shout crazy things; they look at me like I'm crazy, but they love it.
Not everyone is made for middle school. I couldn't handle elementary or high school, but we teachers in middle school get to have lots of fun!
Sincerely,
Miss
