My Thoughts On The 17:18 Series

Hi friends,

If you opened this because you have no idea what the 17:18 series is, yay! I am so excited to tell you all about it. If you opened this because you have tried or are currently participating in the 17:18 series, tell me your thoughts in the comments!

I was introduced to the 17:18 series (also called journibles) about two years ago. I had some friends suggest it to me, so I took them up on their suggestion. The 17:18 series is a series of blank books with lined paper. The reason for the blank lines is for you (the "reader") to write every verse in a particular book of the Bible. Each book is centered around a different book of the Bible. For example, my first journible was John; that whole journible is only the book of John.

This idea stems from Deuteronomy 17:18 "Now it shall come about when he sits on the throne of his kingdom, he shall write for himself a copy of this law on a scroll in the presence of the Leviticus priests." Each king had to write his own copy of the law. This ensured he read every part of the law and carefully observed all the words of the law. The 17:18 series encompasses this idea, and each book is designed so that you write out every word from each book of the Bible.

To say I was shocked at this challenge is an understatement. It seemed overwhelming to try and write every single word, verse, and chapter from each book of the Bible. However, I loved the idea and purchased my copy of John the very next day. At the time, I was going through an in depth study of the book of John, so it was only logical, to me, that I begin there.

I love it. Since beginning the 17:18 series, I have noticed details in the scripture I had never noticed before. My family and I read the Bible cover to cover multiple times while we were growing up, and I still find myself discovering deeper and more intricate details with each passage I write. I am extremely grateful for the friends that introduced me to the series, and I want to be able to spread the word.

If you have never tried the 17:18 series, I highly encourage you to get a book and begin. It has strengthened my knowledge and relationship with God. If you are as excited about this as I was and want to find a copy immediately, you have several options. Lifeway Christian Bookstores carry a small selection of the books (mostly the epistles), Mardel Christian Bookstores offer about the same selection, but Amazon offers a much larger selection of the books (about $13 each). This includes almost all the books of the New Testament, the Psalms (which are broken up into two different books), and Proverbs. They are adding new selections but do not currently have one for every book of the Bible, yet.

If you are skeptical and don't want to fork over the money for a blank book, use a notebook and begin writing the verses in that. The effect is still the same just a little less uniform. My point being, I have found the importance of writing the scriptures and want you to have that same experience.

I suggest the 17:18 series to everyone, and I hope you will try it.

Sincerely,

Miss
